Viola Buitoni was born in Rome and raised in the Italian countryside, where she ate, lived, and cooked very much by the seasons in a way to which many of us aspire here in Sonoma County. She studied in the US and lived for a time in New York City, where she met host Clark Wolf some twenty-five years ago, later moving to San Francisco where she now teaches cooking and lives with her husband and child. Her new book, Italy by Ingredient, is a personal, passionate, and beautiful addition to a beloved lexicon, especially here in Northern California, as well as across America.
Her origins as descendant of the family that brought the world large production quality pasta (yes, that Buitoni) and chocolate (Perugina) the book and Buitoni explore and highlight much of what makes Italian cooking so powerful and appealing.
