Margo True may have started what continues to be a remarkable career at the age of seven when she became enamored with a glossy magazine called Gourmet. Years later she worked at that very title and did significant stints at Savour, our beloved Sunset Magazine and, remarkably, Patagonia, the clothing and gear folks who sell some very special foods. Today she’s the Editorial Director of Civil Eats, a platform that came to be as the result of a magical weekend in San Francisco called Slow Food Nation. There’s history, culture, public policy and a good deal more, with host Clark Wolf.
Savoring Sonoma: The Hour, every second and forth Saturday mornings at 5:00am and Sunday mornings at 10:00am on KRCB 104.9.
In this episode of Savoring Sonoma host Clark Wolf speaks with two legendary food pros. Marion Nestle, among the world’s foremost microbiologists and nutritional experts, talks about the current status of food and safety policies, the MAHA movement and previews her upcoming book What To Eat Now, due out in November.
Our final segment is a conversation, recorded several years ago at her home in Craftsbury, Vermont, with Marian Burros, who died recently at 92. She covers her many years as a food reporter at the New York Times, best selling cookbooks her famous plum torte and more.
Jennifer Graue is our guest on this episode of Savoring Sonoma: The Hour. Her tenure as a food writer at the Press Democrat has produced a meaningful collection of articles about people and their connection to food, farming, family and our community. Now as Editor in Chief of Sonoma Magazine, and still contributing pieces about food, she speaks with host Clark Wolf about her growing up around the family table and in the kitchen, learning about food and cooking in Australia and the multilayered bounty of Sonoma County food and farming. This was the last episode recorded at the Labath property, this time in Studio C, before moving to the new building across town.
For the last decade or so host Clark Wolf has moderated panels in the Life on the Farm section of the Gravenstein Apple Fair. Usually, it’s farmers and others who take care of us addressing fundamental topics of strong interest. This year the focus of Sunday’s panel was a lively discussion of those big words being used these days: sustainable, regenerative, responsible. Farmers (a James Beard Award winning grain farmer!), organizational leaders, design directors, wine growers and more. But Saturday was a tasty departure, featuring six top talents who baked stellar Gravenstein apple pies in their own unique styles, then judged each others and we gave some awards. Inspiring and full, in every sense of the word.
Panel included: Jennifer Reichart (Liberty Duck farm), Melissa Bucklin (Oak Hill Farm), David Evershed (Eames Ranch), Mai Nguyen (Farmer Mai), and Brittany Jensen (Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District).
Pie Contest featured: Priti Mistri, Daniel Kedan, Geneva Melby, Dawn Zaft, Gergana Karabelov, and Michele Wimborough.
