afavorite in his fourth appearance: the internationally renowned guitarist PaulGalbraith. Mr. Galbraith plays a unique 8-string guitar, which departs from theestablished format through an asymmetrical stringing design borrowed from thelute family. It was named the ‘BrahmsGuitar’ for its richness of sound and wide range. It has a cello-like endpin that Paul rests ona box to enhance the projection of instrument’s rich sound. On this instrument, Paul has recorded aseries of highly acclaimed albums, starting with the music of Brahms pianovariations, and continuing with a Haydn Sonata; ‘French Impressions’, withmusic by Debussy & Ravel; Britten’s famous Nocturnal for guitar; and Bach’sSonatas & Partitas which was nominated for a Grammy award. His latest CD,Allemande, was released in 2017.
Paulwas born in Scotland and grew up studying guitar and piano in England. He began concertizing in his late teens aftercoming to public attention in Great Britain though a series of televisedcompetition successes. As a 17-year-old,Paul entered the Leeds Castle Segovia competition which was attended by itsnamesake. After Paul played and wasawarded the silver medal, André Segovia made a prescient prediction, “Paul ismagnificent. He will be a greatartist.” Since the early nineties, Paulhas toured the USA annually, and performed extensively in the UK and theEuropean Union, as well as in Russia, South America, India, China andAustralia. The orchestra and ensembleshe has played with include the Santa Rosa Symphony (Rodrigo’s Concierto deAranjuez), the BBC Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the St. PetersburgQuartet, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. Inone concert, he played for Queen Elizabeth.
