Serving up a blend of blues, rock, world, folk, and alternative country, live performances, and intimate interviews, the two-hour daily program is produced by WXPN-FM in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia pop-punk band Modern Baseball went on indefinite hiatus back in 2017 following a period of writer’s block from songwriter Jake Ewald. He formed a new project, Slaughter Beach, Dog, to explore a different sound, named after a beach close to his parent’s house in Delaware. With his third studio album, Safe and Also No Fear, Ewald foregoes his emo influences to focus on folk-rock reminiscent of Wilco, accompanied by his former bandmate Ian Farmer. He recorded some songs from his album live in the WXPN studio for a mini-concert, coming up on the next World Cafe.

The Head and The Heart return for a special acoustic performance in front of a live audience who gave us some questions for the band that led to some surprising answers. We’ll also hear beautiful performances of songs from the new album, Living Mirage, and a special rendition of “Lost in My Mind”.

The Lone Bellow created their new album in solitude. The trio worked, ate, and slept in an upstate New York studio – away from everything – and left with Half Moon Light, a collection of very personal songs that welcomes you in like family. It even introduces some of their actual family; lead singer Zach Williams’ grandmother plays piano to open and close the record. Half Moon Light drops next Friday, but today we'll get a preview of the lead single "Count On Me," and other new songs, in a live studio performance, and The Lone Bellow talk about the isolated recording experience with host Raina Douris. That’s coming up, on the next World Cafe.

After recording their last album with a backing band, The Milk Carton Kids decided to return to their duo roots. On the new record, The Only Ones, you’ll hear just the voices and acoustic guitars of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. They stop by the World Cafe today to perform some of the new music around a single microphone. And we’ll hear the story of how they came to host the Americana Music Awards, and what they think the label “Americana” really means. That’s coming up, on the next World Cafe with host Stephen Kallao.
