Serving up a blend of blues, rock, world, folk, and alternative country, live performances, and intimate interviews, the two-hour daily program is produced by WXPN-FM in Philadelphia.

Today on the World Cafe, it’s a mix you won’t want to miss… Since there’s never a bad time for a great Sharon Jones vocal performance, we’ll hear her version of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” And how about some rock and blues? Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are masters, so we’ll get to one of their latest jams, “Hard Case.” Plus, Wilco’s “Impossible Germany” features one of the great guitar solos of the last 30 years. We’ll hear all that, and much more, from host Stephen Kallao’s two-hour playlist. On the next World Cafe.

Did you know? You can use almost anything to make music. By simply tapping her thighs, Maggie Rogers wrote the rhythm for her song “Alaska”; Sibling band Bailen started playing music when they were little, by banging on pots and pans; And KT Tunstall uses loop pedals and stomps on a tambourine to create the sound of a whole band, all on her own! Host Raina Douris shares lots of music to inspire you to get creative, while keeping your social distance. Coming up, on the next World Cafe.

Moby made a seminal record based on the samples of musical archivist Alan Lomax. Dido wrote a song most people wouldn’t know about until Eminem sampled it 3 years later. The Red Hot Chili Peppers brought us Californication. We look back at the turn of the millennium for the music of 1999. 20 years on we’ll revisit classics from Wilco, Pavement, Macy Grey, Beck, Santana and more.

Guitarist Samantha Fish makes bold and expressive blues music. So, it may come as a surprise that she needed a nudge to perform live at first, when the then 17-year-old was handed a guitar at a house party. Now, Samantha has been touring steadily for over a decade, just released her sixth album, Kill or Be Kind…and she never stops experimenting. She joins host Raina Douris today to talk about playing with new sounds, and how she carved out her own identity as a woman in the traditionally male-dominated blues scene. That’s next, on an encore edition of the World Cafe.
