About a year ago, Marcus King left his home in South Carolina, moved to Nashville, and made his first solo record. It was produced by his buddy, Dan Auerbach. King also got himself a new ride, a 1980 Cadillac El Dorado. El Dorado is also the name of King’s new album, and we’ll hear the full story today in an interview with host Raina Douris. Plus, a special solo performance in front of a live audience. That’s coming up, on this encore edition of the World Cafe.

Katie Pruitt was brought up in a religious household in suburban Atlanta without a lot of gay role models, and with parents who worried she would be judged by others for being gay. Eventually she started writing songs, moved to Nashville, and – through her music – tackled many of the issues she’d grown up with. Katie joins host Stephen Kallao today to talk about coming out, and how her music might help others who are trying to. Plus, we’ll hear a live studio performance of songs from her debut album, Expectations.

Huey Lewis and the News have released a new original album, called Weather, their first in almost twenty years. But while they were in the process of recording, Huey faced a serious setback – He’s losing his hearing due to Ménière's disease. While they were still able to finish the record, they had to cancel the tour. Today, Huey explains what exactly happened the night he realized something was very wrong, but also how he’s stayed positive. Plus, we’ll hear some great stories, including one about the time he stowed away on a plane to Europe. That’s next, on the World Cafe with host Raina Douris.

At the release of Great Grandpa's first album, they all lived in the same Seattle apartment, and owed their sound in part to that city's roots in the Grunge movement of the 90's. Since then, two of the members of the band Carrie and Pat Goodwin had moved to Milwaukee, while the rest stayed in Seattle. That distance forced the band to stretch their sound, and that shows on their latest album Four of Arrows, which they lovingly describe as "snack rock." The band perform songs off that album live in studio, on the next World Cafe.
