Sarah Jarosz has been going non-stop for more than a decade. Starting when she signed a record deal at just 16 years old, Sarah’s constantly been making albums and touring them on the road. Much like the rest of the world though, she’s had to hit the brakes in 2020. Today, she talks about what it’s been like staying still, and how her new record, World On The Ground, explores a seemingly exotic place for her: home. Plus, she’ll perform some of the new songs live. That’s coming up, on the next World Cafe with host Raina Douris.

You could say Lori McKenna leads many lives…One as a mom of five, one as a celebrated Nashville songwriter who’s penned tracks for artists like Tim McGraw and Little Big Town, and one as a solo artist making her own music. Lori’s new record, The Balladeer, came out in July, and she joins host Raina Douris today to talk about family and songwriting and explains how David Letterman inspired the song that anchors the album. Plus, Lori performs some of the new music live. Coming up, on the next World Cafe.

Before becoming a musician, Nap Eyes frontman Nigel Chapman worked as a biochemist, and it’s had a big influence on his songwriting – He takes a scientific approach. We’ll hear about that process today in his conversation with host Raina Douris. And we’ll step into Nigel’s musical laboratory for some live performances from the band’s new album, Snapshot Of A Beginner. It’s Nap Eyes, on the next World Cafe.

The Los Angeles band Chicano Batman wanted to evolve with their latest collection of songs, called Invisible People. The sound of the record is big, filled with hooks, and showcases multiple influences. And to get that sound, they enlisted the help of engineer Sean Everett – and maybe got a little inspiration from hanging out with him and Brittany Howard while she was finishing her solo album. We’ll hear about that connection today, plus live recordings of some of the new tracks. Coming up, on this encore edition of the World Cafe with host Stephen Kallao.
