Howard Quarrys End wm“Quarry’s End” 1946 by Robert B. Howard (1896-1983) Oil on Canvas, 34 × 26There are two exhibitions on view right now that I’d like to mention. Both feature work created by artists associated with the San Francisco Art Institute, which closed in 2022, after 150 years. One puts a focus on historical work, the other showcases more contemporary work; and both shows explore the Art Institute’s tradition of breaking rules and boundaries.

At Calabi GalleryPushing Boundaries mostly features artwork created between 1945 and 1950, when the Art Institute was called the California School of Fine Arts.
