abstract3 The current exhibition at the Petaluma Arts Center is Black Artists of Northern California. With the intention of giving voice and vision to Black American artists, the exhibition showcases the work of 28 regional artists, and features work in a variety of styles and media.
While American Black artists continue to produce large quantities of high-quality artwork, their work accounts for only 2.2% of U.S. Museum acquisitions. Recognizing this shortcoming, local artist and curator, Denise Ward, set out to put a spotlight on the top notch talents of local and regional black artists. And beyond being practicing artists, these individuals contribute and influence the collective Bay Area art scene through their work as gallerists, muralists, and educators.
A Closing Reception is on Saturday, August 24th, from 12 – 4 pm, with Music by Keenan Webster.
Black Artists of Northern California runs through August 24th at the Petaluma Arts Center on Lakeville Street, in Petaluma.
