Just about everyone has assets; when you die, they become your estate. But what happens then depends a lot on choices you make beforehand.
 

Santa Rosa Attorney MaryClare Lawrence says she wrote her modest handbook on how to approach estate planning for ordinary folks, a demographic that has been largely overlooked by the authors of other books on the subject.

For many people, says Lawrence, the inescapable fact that estate planning requires confronting their own eventual demise becomes a big barrier to engaging in that process.

Lawrence also encourages people to think seriously and creatively about including meaningful charitable contributions in their estates.
