americanphilharmonicIt's a long way from Cotati and Santa Rosa to Shanghai and Beijing, but Sonoma County's American Philharmonic Orchestra  is poised to make that journey later this month.

chinese-flag-640The program the orchestra will play at their Chinese concerts will begin with a patriotic overture suggested by the local promoter (substituting for the Chinese national anthem), and include a mix of pieces by European, American and Chinese composers that also spans several centuries. Conductor Gabriel Sakakeeny (left)  runs through the sequece that will follow the state-sanctioned "Ode to the Red Flag."

The 82 members of the American Philharmonic will perform a series of eight concerts during their trip to China, but the 12 day visit also includes some down time for the musicians to see the sights.

The American Philharmonic will preview their Chinese concert program at a benefit concert on Sunday evening, Dec. 18 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa. Details and advance tickets are available here.
