CoyotePtZoo-mCoyotes are one wild species that has adapted to human presence just fine. But we're not nearly as adept at dealing with them.

coyotecrossingJanet Kessler first encountered an urban coyote on San Francisco's Twin Peaks. Naming it Myca, she studied and photographed the animal, which led to her strong interest in explaining and protecting the wild canines.

Like many kinds of dogs, coyotes live in packs, led by a dominant or alpha male. When these groups are seen as a threat, hunting them is through to thin their numbers, decreasing those threats. But because of the dynamics within the pack, Kessler says hunting coyotes can actually have the opposite result.
