The medicinal use of marijuana, once simply illegal, is now not only permitted in California and 14 other states, but has become a billion dollar industry, even as the plant remains classified as a dangerous, outlawed drug by the federal government.
To the surprise of many, reports Geluardi , Oakland has become California's most prominent city embracing the new medical marijuana industry, a symbiotic partnership that appears to be benefiting everyone involved.
Some observers have seen a link between the day when U.S.Attorney General Eric Holder weigned in against Proposition 19, and the downturn in professed public support for the measure. But Geluardi is skeptical.
