Mendo  For most of California, Proposition 19 is being framed as a law enforcement or public health issue. In Mendocino County, it is also an agriculture issue.

Proposition 19 has attracted widespread, even international news coverage, but most of the debate within California has focused on public health and law enforcement concerns, along with speculation about the potential economic benefits from taxing the sale of legalized marijuana. From an agricultural perspective, Mendocino County Agriculture Commissioner Tony LInegar suggests that should Prop 19 win approval, commercial cultivation of marijuana in California might likely follow the same market stratification that the state's wine grapes already experinece.
