We were delighted to have Meklit Hadero take a break from her tour through Northern California to perform for us in our own KRCB studio. Born in Ethiopia, and based in San Francisco, Meklit's music is a beautifu genre-bender, crossing the lines of folk, soul, jazz and African music. Her sound has been compared to Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and many more. Recently named "Google Artist of the Week," Meklit's infectious sounds are spreading quickly, earning coverage from NPR, The Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle and more.
Keep an eye on Meklit, she is constantly working on new and interesting, very unique projects. Learn more about her in Amy Contardi's radio and television interview with Meklit for her program, Crossing Borders.

Since their inception eight years ago, Dgiin has been creating quite a stir with their memorable and energetic performances. Dgiin's members are as diverse as their music and hail from France, El Salvador and Ohio. Their music ranges from Paco de Lucia flamenco to Django Reinhardt gypsy guitar with Tito Puente style salsa beats and unforgettable vocals.
It was fabulous having Dgiin in our small studio. Their sounds emanated throughout the building sparking some life and energy in our office. They were also incredibly gracious, a joy to be around, and we hope will be back very soon.
British pianist and composer Helen Jane Long stopped by KRCB's studios on Friday April 15th to perform in Studio J. She played KRCB's Steinway baby grand along with accompanying musicians, violinists Yuri Kalvits and Jonathan Howells, and cellists Nicholas Holland and Katherine Jenkinson. They're all traveling with her on a three week US tour, in a small tour bus with two babies in tow.
Long's minimalist tunes can be heard oln her two CDs, a third is due out later this year. She has also written scores for film and television, notably being part of the music team on the score of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Here, Helen and the band perform her piece titled, "To Dust" from her latest CD, Embers.
