Spike Sikes Deep Dive: Margo Guryan on Midday Music

This month, Spike Sikes gave us a deep dive into the life and career of Margo Guryan. She was an American singer-songwriter, who's first recorded work was in 1958. Guryan is perhaps best known for her 1960s song "Sunday Mornin'," which was a hit for both Spanky and Our Gang and Oliver. It's our best deep dive show yet! Have a listen!

Victoria George stopped by for Morning Music

Brian has been wanting to meet Victoria George for awhile now. She is based in the North Bay, but doesn't cross the Marin-Sonoma county line very often. She finally came in (with guitarist Dave Sampson in tow) to promote her show at Sweetwater as well as her upcoming new release "Wilderness".

Water Tower stopped by for Morning Music

Water Tower is a young band from the bastion of bluegrass—Los Angeles. They swung through NorCal for a show at Hopmonk and decided to come by and play some tunes and chat with Brian.

John Courage paid a visit to Morning Music

John Courage is often called upon to accompany musicians as they tour. He's been all through the US and Europe, but he always finds his way back to Santa Rosa, where he grew up. John visited Brian in Studio A recently to talk about dual citizenship, upcoming gigs and, of course, guitars.

Gatlin graced Morning Music with Brian Griffith

Gatlin is young singer-songwriter originally from Florida. She has just released her debut album “The Eldest Daughter.” She came to visit Brian in Studio A to play some songs and talk about growth, songwriting and discovering oneself. Have a listen!

Ramon Meraz stopped by to chat with Doug Jayne during Midday Music. Meraz plays the title role of Pancho Villa in the Raven Players' production of "Who Will Dance With Pancho Villa?" at the Raven Performing Arts Theater in Healdsburg, running from January 22–31, 2026.

Leslie Mendelson stopped by Morning Music for some songs and stories

Leslie Mendelson lives in New York, but we get visits from her because her mom lives in Sonoma county. An accomplished artist, she has toured with Jackson Browne and her latest release “After the Party” was produced by music industry legend Peter Asher. Leslie sits down with Brian to talk about the Grateful Dead, the songwriting process and her mom’s proximity to the studio. She also graced us with a live performance.

Misner & Smith stopped by for Midday Music

Sam Misner and Megan Smith visited Midday Music as a duo. They played a few tunes and talked about playing with the band at Hopmonk Sebastopol on Friday, January 16th.

Winona stopped by KRCB to play us some beautiful tunes on Midday Music with Doug Jayne. She has a show coming up January 11th at Sweetwater Music Hall.

Ken Pomeroy stopped by for Morning Music with Brian

Hailing from Oklahoma, Ken Pomeroy is a 23 year old talent of Cherokee descent. Her writing is wise beyond her years, probably because she started composing her own music when she was about 12. She was inspired by John Denver’s “Jet Plane” when she was just out of kindergarten. Ken’s major label debut “Cruel Joke” came out last year and it made many “Best-ofs” lists for 2025 (including Brian’s) She stopped into studio A as she kicked off a west coast tour. Have a listen!

Max Gomez stopped by for Morning Music

Max Gomez is a singer-songwriter from Taos, New Mexico. He is no stranger to Sonoma county having performed at such venues as the Mystic, Lagunitas and most recently Little Saint. His newest release “Memory Mountain” is filled with lush and life-affirming tunes. He gets to hang with legends like Joe Ely and Michael Martin Murphy. Max stopped by Studio A to play some tunes and tell us about attending Julia Robert’s New Year’s Eve party last year.

Jim Lauderdale came for a visit to our new studio during his recent west coast swing. He spent some time in L.A. back in the day and Brian talks with him about the Palomino, the hub of country music in Southern California, and we get a live preview of his new release!

Max Gomez has performed in our area a bunch of times. He regularly plays Little Saint in Healdsburg and has headlined at Lagunitas Brewery. Emma Swift joined Brian for Morning Music

Emma Swift is a native of Australia but has lived in Nashville since 2013. We were thrilled that before her music career she was a radio host. In 2020 Emma released a brilliant album of Bob Dylan covers Blonde on the Tracks. She has recorded and toured extensively with her partner Robyn Hitchcock. Emma brought in some guitar pickers and performed some songs from her new release The Resurection Game and bonded with Brian over each others kitties.

Greg Loiacono joined Brian for Morning Music

Greg Loiacono is known as a co-founder of the popular band the Mother Hips, formed with partner Tim Bluhm when they were students at Chico State. He has also had a great solo career, putting out several albums under his name. Now a new project -Stingray is in the works. Featuring some of the Bay Area's top talent, they are working on the first collection of tunes and will be performing at Hopmonk Sebastopol this weekend.

Joelton Mayfield joined Brian on Morning Music

Joelton Mayfield grew up in Texas, singing and playing in church. He was disillusioned by folks not practicing what they learned on Sunday during the week and began writing songs. Moving to Nashville ten years ago for college, he first studied the business of music, but switched majors to English. Joelton also studied the songwriters in his adopted home town. His debut album Crowd Pleaser is set for release this fall. He stopped into Studio A to play some tunes and chat with Brian.

Terrier stopped by for a chat and a few songs

Terrier is a pandemic era project by Ben Morrison (Brothers Comatose) and Erika Tietjen (T Sisters, Moonalice), The married couple started live streaming from home while lock down prevailed and found it so rewarding they decided to form the group. Both have busy schedules with their own bands, plus Ben & Erika have two little ones so it’s a treat when they can get together for a chat and a couple of tunes in Studio A.

Dave Alvin chats with Brian on Morning Music

Dave Alvin is no stranger to NorCal and he's back with three shows this summer. Growing up in Downey in Southern California, he learned his craft by seeing all the blues greats. He and brother Phil formed the Blasters in the seventies, and he's had many bands since including the Guilty Ones, Dave and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and the Third Mind. He talks with Brian about song structure, great singers and more.

Stella Heath joins Brian for Morning Music

Stella Heath has been a good friend to the station for many years. She began singing gypsy jazz (in French)! She then branched out with classic standards. Heath developed a presentation on the life and music of Billie Holiday, and has since performed shows featuring tunes from Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. Accompanied by guitarist Ian Scherer and Robby Elfman on sax and clarinet, Stella brought some class to Studio A. Have a listen!

Taylor Rae graced Studio A for Morning Music

Taylor Rae is a NorCal girl. Growing up in the Santa Cruz mountains, she discovered her fondness for all kinds of music, from folk and jazz to psychedelic. These influences were heard on her debut album Mad Twenties. She visited Brian in Studio A to promote that record, and now she's back with a new release The Void. Now based in Austin, her immediate family has also relocated to Texas. Have a listen!

Jeff Plankenhorn visited with Brian in Studio A

Jeff Plankenhorn is a welcome visitor to Studio A. He just made another appearance on the Morning Music show with Brian. As J Plank, the guitarist and songwriter has put together a new album, The Bend, set for release in July. Preach! Christopher Watkins pays a visit to Morning Music

Preacher Boy is the nom de plume of Christopher Watkins. He's been making records under this name for thirty years. His latest Ghost Notes has just been released. He spent time with Brian in Studio A playing some tunes and talking about higher education. He has a MFA in poetry. Preacher Boy has also put out a companion book Ghost Notes -Songs and Stories.
