Thank you for your interest in participating in KRCB’s Art Matters! Here’s what you need to do, if you’d like to be considered for the free art instruction workshop provided by the Charles Schulz Museum:

1. Decide on a social issue that you would like to address using two dimensional arts (drawing, photographs, collage, cartooning, painting, etc.). The issue could be immigration, prejudice, environmental concerns (like pollution or climate change), inequity (class, racial, gender), bullying…whatever you think warrants attention and has personal meaning for you.

2. Write one to two paragraphs that identify the issue you would like to address and explain why. Describe the message you want to convey and how you would use visual art to do so.

3. Please note: In order for KRCB to display artwork on TV and via a traveling exhibit (if your project is selected), it must not exceed 30” x 42”. You have the option to create several smaller pieces that form a series or you can create a study for a large scale piece such as a mural, installation or sculpture.

4. Submit you application online by clicking the Submit Your Application tab and following the instructions. You can also email your submission to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than  March 31 at midnight, 2015. Be sure to include your name, high school, phone number and email address.

Jurors will be looking for sincerity, creativity, and insight when choosing the 25 students who will attend the two-day art workshop. This isn’t about your artistic ability, but rather your creativity and the power of the message you want to convey. The workshop will not encompass all visual arts, but it will include narrative construction, social commentary, cartooning, and multimedia collage. You may bring your pre-existing art work (for example, a drawing or photos to create a collage) and get professional guidance to enhance its impact.

We will provide free bus transportation to and from the Charles Schulz Museum on May 2 and 3, from three bus pick-up points (to be announced). If the pick-up points are inconvenient for you, feel free to provide your own transportation. The museum is located at 2301 Hardies Lane in Santa Rosa. A free lunch will be provided on both days, along with access to all the art supplies and equipment needed to create a workshop project.

Selected art created during the workshop will be featured on KRCB television, online, and on public display. A signed release form to display the art will be required from all students who wish to be included.
