SMART service to the new downtown Windsor station begins May 31, 2025.

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit trains will begin taking passengers to and from a new station in Windsor starting Saturday, the first of three stations that will extend the SMART service into northern Sonoma County.

The new station near the Windsor Town Green downtown park will be followed in the coming years by new stations in Healdsburg and then Cloverdale.

The SMART system previously has had its northernmost station near Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport and the southernmost train is in Larkspur in Marin County, where passengers can connect to ferry service.

SMART's new train schedule for service to and from Windsor is now available on the agency's website.

The first southbound weekday train departs from Windsor each day at 4:35 a.m. and the first southbound weekend train leaves from the station at 7:12 a.m.

The final northbound weekday train arrives in Windsor each day at 10:10 p.m. and the final northbound weekend one arrives at 9:07 p.m.

A grand opening ceremony is also planned for 1:45 p.m. on June 13 at the Windsor station to celebrate the new northern endpoint for the train service.

"Opening this new SMART station is the realization of a long-held promise to the Windsor community," said SMART Board of Directors chair and Sonoma County Supervisor Chris Coursey said in a statement. "We're proud to deliver this long-awaited connection and to take the next step toward completing SMART's full northern route. It's an exciting day for Windsor and for the entire North Bay."
