The Sonoma County Department of Health Services confirmed that a second local passenger on the Grand Princess Cruise Ship was diagnosed with COVID-19. The first Sonoma County resident diagnosed with the virus was reported on Monday, March 2. 

 

Both patients are being treated in isolation rooms at a local hospital, though county officials declined to name which one. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will do an additional test to confirm both diagnoses.  

 

The Sonoma County Department of Health Services received a list of other Sonoma County residents who were on that cruise ship and took a shared shuttle back to Sonoma County from San Francisco.  According to the Press Democrat, there were 78 Sonoma County residents on the Grand Princess cruise. County officials say that passengers will not be considered at risk of cruise ship exposure if they do not exhibit symptoms of the virus by Friday evening, March 6. Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough and shortness of breath. 

 

This marks the third case of COVID-19 in Sonoma County. The first was announced on February 25, when a patient from the Princess Diamond Cruise Ship was transported to a local hospital from Travis Air Force Base.  The first patient is not a Sonoma County resident and was transported here to relieve health care workers at the base.
