She shared her story in person with students at a Santa Rosa middle school yesterday. 

Reyna Grande's first book, Across A Hundred Mountains, was a novel inspired by her personal history. She then unflinchingly told her own story in the memoir, The Distance Between Us, which has now been issued in an abridged version for younger readers. She says the title applies to multiple aspects of her story.

Her third book, Dancing With Butterflies, is also a novel that deals with immigration issues.
