Portrait of Sonoma County

portraitsonomacountyA Portrait of Sonoma County, released on May 20, 2014, is an in-depth look at how the residents of Sonoma County are faring in three fundamental areas: life expectancy, education, and income. The report is based on the Human Development approach, which puts people at the center of an analysis to assess the opportunity each of us has to live up to our full potential. The Index is calculated on a range of 0-10 and mapped at the census tract level across Sonoma County.

(A Portrait of Sonoma County was written and complied by MEASURE OF AMERICA/Social Science Research Council)

Economic Wellness and Your Health

EconomicWellnessThe Economic Wellness Initiative is a community-based, county-wide effort that addresses the vital role economic conditions play in family and community health. With over half of Sonoma County families living paycheck to paycheck, our community's well-being is currently at risk.

To address these growing health and economic disparities, the Economic Wellness Initiative was formed in January 2014 by Health Action, a framework and leadership team that supports and coordinates Sonoma County's shared vision of being the healthiest county in California. Health Action recognizes that access to healthcare is only one piece of the puzzle for helping people stay healthy, and that income is a root cause of health disparity in our community. In Health Action's 2013-2016 workplan, economic wellness was identified as one of three priority areas, with an over goal that "...Sonoma County families have the economic resources to make ends meet, and lead a long and healthy life."

Cradle to Career

CradleLogoTo provide every child with ample opportunities to succeed and achieve their life potential, we must come together as a community to address barriers and challenges to educational attainment and workforce development. Students who get off to a strong educational start are more likely to graduate from high school, are more likely to attend college, have dramatically higher earning potential over a lifetime, have better health outcomes, and are better able to contribute to the economic, social and cultural life of the community.
