Remember Big Read Sonoma County 2010? Hundreds of Sonoma County residents of all ages read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer during the month of April and participated in community events ranging from special park programs to a ballet, reading to a dog in the local library, and riding a raft on the Petaluma River--to name just a few of the choices offered to celebrate this literary classic. We'll be taking a year off, but in 2012 KRCB plans on bringing back Big Read Sonoma County with a new book also selected by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as an example of great American literature: Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima. If you want to propose events in your community related to the themes in Bless Me, Ultima (or other works by the author), let me know. Watch the interview with Rudolfo Anaya in this video made by the NEA - it will make you want to read the book!
