Opera Sundays for 2012
Other amusing selections this year include the familiar Tales of Hoffman, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the rarely heard Die Kluge/Der Mond by Orff (best known, of course, for Carmina Burana). More serious fare includes La Boheme, Tannhäuser, and Nabucco from the great masters. Less frequently heard but excellent operas in the schedule include Medea, Bluebeard’s Castle, Armida, and Le Cid (for the Francophiles). Our Handel opera this year, thanks to a loan from a generous listener, is Riccardo Primo, based on the marriage of Richard the Lionhearted to Princess Berengaria of Navarre, on Cyprus during the Third Crusade. Opera Sundays are usually the first Sunday of the month. However, to accommodate broadcasts of the Santa Rosa Symphony we will bump the January, February and April operas to the second Sundays.
