May 3 – Speaking Youth to Power
Three youth advocates join in a discussion about the power of the youth generation. Abigail Borah, a member of SustainUS, stood up during the COP17 Durban climate conferences to appeal for faster action against climate change. Stanford student Adarsha Shivakumar is among a group of youths who have filed suit against the federal and state governments claiming they have a legal responsibility to protect the atmosphere for future generations. Tania Pulido began as an at-risk youth before she got herself involved in food justice advocacy. Can tomorrow’s generation help us today get on the right track to save the climate and our futures?
May 10 – Water World
Wild weather and growing population are increasing stress on global fresh water supplies. Scientists project more extremes of both—too much water in some places and other times, not enough. A trio of speakers involved in this issue discuss water stewardship in the United States and what we can learn from other countries.
May 17 – Power Poll
Do Americans consider the environment and clean energy when they vote for politicians? Three experts on energy and public opinion look at the public attitudes underneath the debate about America’s energy future.
May 24 – Converting Electric Cars
Nissan LEAF. Chevy Volt. Ford Focus. Toyota Prius Plug-In. Tesla. Coda. Fisker. No matter how hard the oil industry may lobby to support Americans’ oil addiction, many car companies are already turning to electric as the answer to Americans’ driving needs. But how are these vehicles being received by mainstream America? Is mainstream media coherently covering the rebirth of the electric car?
May 31 – Crash Course
Financial market volatility and depleting resources present a challenging outlook for investors. Notable author and futurist Chris Martenson joins a
Climate One audience to discuss charting a course to prosperity through the coming turbulence ahead.
June 7 – Inside ExxonMobil
Steve Coll (rt), author of Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power, writes that ExxonMobil spends more money lobbying Congress than any other corporation. Within the energy industry, it is regarded as a highly efficient and profitable corporate machine with strong safety standards and relatively low rates of accidents and spills. But what really happens inside one of the world’s most secretive and powerful companies?
June 14 – Green Myths Busted
Your low-carbon lifestyle may be dirtier than you think. Climate One’s Greg Dalton talks with three green experts about what a well-intentioned consumer should do and how to make purchasing decisions that line up with the facts.
June 21 – Sun Spots
Can large solar farms and the California desert co-exist? Yes, says this program’s panel of experts from diverse perspectives. All agree that the Obama administration is on the right track with its commitment to bring relevant stakeholders together early in the process and in its preference for reviewing projects on a landscape scale.
June 25 – Cruising 55
U.S. automakers stood with President Obama last year to support the biggest increase in auto fuel economy standards ever: a fleet average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, which means about 43 miles per gallon in real-life driving. How will automakers meet the new requirements? Will consumers have more choices for gas hybrids and pure electric vehicles? A peek into the future of the auto industry.
