DESCRIPTION:David Hockney\, one of the most important British artists of th
e twentieth century\, takes a contemporary and often humorous approach in
a series of 39 etchings created to illustrate and honor the popular childr
en's tales collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The etchings pay homage t
o earlier illustrations by Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac\, but focus mor
e on Hockney's imaginative response to the text rather than strict interpr
etations of the narratives.\nAt a time when mainstream publishing houses a
re questioning the very need for books published in traditional\, physica
l formats\, artists who create books continue to creatively push the limi
ts of the genre. Made primarily by Bay Area artists\, the books included
in Rebound: A Survey of Contemporary California Artists' Books include a
variety of formats and display a wide range of processes that currently i
nterest the contemporary artist engaged in making artist's books. This exh
ibition runs concurrently with the David Hockney show.\nExhibitions take p
lace at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art\, 551 Broadway\, just off the Sonoma T
 own Plaza.

DESCRIPTION:Come aboard &quot\;The Dislocation Express&quot\;Traveling perf
ormances byAXIS Dance Company and Dandelion Dancetheater\nEric Kupers dire
cted site-specific collaboration between AXIS Dance Company and Dandelion
Dancetheater travels from Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley to two BART statio
ns. The Dislocation Express explores personal experiences of finding a sen
se of home and then losing it.\nArtistic Director of Dandelion Dancetheate
r Eric Kupers is known in the Bay Area for his rich\, visually captivating
and emotional dance theater pieces that often explore themes of the human
condition.  What better Company to collaborate with than AXIS Dance Comp
any\, the Bay Area’s local dance sensation of dancers with and without d
isabilities.\nHaving most recently appeared as guest artists on the FOX re
ality television show &quot\;So You Think You Can Dance&quot\;\, AXIS is n
o stranger to performing in unconventional spaces and situations.  &quot\
;The Dislocation Express&quot\; will be a welcome opportunity to collabora
te with Dandelion Dancetheater\, another local company that questions conv
entional ideas about dancer and dance performance\, to bring dance outside
of the proscenium theater and to the masses.\n&quot\;The Dislocation Expr
ess&quot\; looks at the nature of place and displacement. Exploring the ar
tists' experiences with finding a sense of home and then losing it for var
ious reasons\, The Dislocation Express draws from images and fantasies abo
ut hobo culture to better understand contemporary notions of place amidst
the portable internet and mobile phone culture.\nAll of the music for &quo
t\;The Dislocation Express&quot\; will be performed live\, composed by mem
bers of the ensemble and played on instruments\, voices\, adaptive apparat
us and certain portions of the sets designed for sonic capabilities.  Dav
id Ryther and Mantra Plonsey will give shape to the sonic landscape of the
work and will lead the ensemble in finding new ways of thinking about mus
ic – including the sounds of wheels\, wheelchairs\, metal objects\, and
more.\nWhat: AXIS Dance Company and Dancelion Dancetheater’s The Disloca
