Last Friday night we officially welcomed the start of Big Read, Sonoma County 2012 at the Arlene Francis Theater in downtown Santa Rosa. The occasion was a live recording of an original audio play produced by local high school students in collaboration with The Imaginists Theater Collective. A group of students from four different schools read passages from “Bless Me, Ultima” in English and Spanish, accompanied by Foley sound effects (such as an old pair of shoes, a water cauldron, dried branRead More...

Most of us at one time or another in our lives has had the experience of reading a book that was so good you didn't want to put it down. Even when you were finished with it the characters wouldn't leave your side. In my role as Project Manager for Big Read, Sonoma County I have been struck by the impact this year's book selection has had on local youth and young adults. " Bless Me, Ultima" by Rudolfo Anaya was selected to be this year's Big Read, Sonoma County book.

No one wants to think about disaster striking but as we know one can occur any time, any place. We are especially vulnerable in California with our infamous fault lines running up and down the State, and in some cases, under our homes. This summer KRCB received a grant funded by the California Emergency Management Agency, the California Seismic Safety Commission and the California Earthquake Authority and was able to air a special program several times this past week on Channel 22: "TotRead More...

How does a public broadcasting station plan its future when everything in the world of media is constantly changing? If you are KRCB you choose a path that involves the community. The first community member to join us in this endeavor was Dr. Saul Eisen, founder of the Masters in Organization Development program at Sonoma State University and a well-respected consultant in the field. He suggested that we sponsor a future search conference.

<img src="http://krcb.org/imagRead More...

When I'm out in the community, I often get asked questions, some variation of "how can I get KRCB involved in my community event?" or "how can I get publicity?" I know it can be difficult to figure out how to approach the station if you don't happen to know someone who works here.

One of the major purposes of this blog is to make the station more transparent to the community. Bruce Robinson, our news director here at KRCB, has been kind enough to compile a quick guide:

<p alignRead More...

Support Radio Pledge

Public Radio is special. One of the things that makes us special is our funding model - we put our product out there and then ask our consumers to pay for it. When we ask for funding, we're in a mode we call "pledge drive." Pledge drives are the time when public radio goes to its consumers to ask for support. It is a giddy time in radio; fabulous programming, many, many requests to listeners for support, and lots of volunteers in the station staffing phones and helping on air.
