When a Rincon Valley Fire District truck set out to answer a call Tuesday morning, they unknowingly carried an unauthorized passenger. According to a press release from Joathan Sloat of the Santa Rosa Area CHP office, 19 year old Jesus Christian Alvarez had apparently climbed onto the rear bumper and grabbed hold as the truck left the department’s Todd Road station and headed north on Highway 101. The stowaway was spotted as the fire truck crossed Highway 12, and CHP was alerted. They in turn contacted fire dispatch, but about the same time, indications from other drivers directed the vehicle pulled over on the side of the freeway. Officers arrived and contacted Alvarez, “who appeared sober,” Sloat noted, especially after he was arrested and charged with interfering with a fireman, and riding on the outside of a vehicle.
“Can’t make these up,” Sloat concluded.
