Sonoma County Regional Parks and iGROW Sonoma are inviting public, food-producing gardens to enter the first Grateful Bed Garden Competition & Tour, a friendly contest showcasing the value, creativity and ingenuity that go into creating such gardens. The competition and tour will highlight the great potential for food production, community building and natural beauty within these public beds.
Eligible gardens are those located on public properties such as schools and parks or in public locations such as hospital grounds, wineries and farm stands. The competition is not open to home gardens at this time. Gardens must register by July 1 and will be judged in various categories between July 15 and Aug. 3. Local gardening businesses will donate prizes.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, the gardens will be open for self-guided tours from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and visitors can help select the winner of a people's choice award. A printable map of the gardens will be available in advance at sonomacountyparks.org. The tour is free, with donations to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation welcome. Nonprofit host sites also may be accepting donations.
