DESCRIPTION:The Petaluma Arts Center will open an exhibition of sculptural 
 and functional works in clay and glass by members of Association of Clay a
 nd Glass Artists of California (ACGA) on January 20 through March 4\, 2012
  at 230Lakeville St\, Petaluma\,  Located in the Historical Railroad Stat
 ion at Washington and Lakeville. \nContemporary clay and glass artists wil
 l exhibit in the good company of historically important works borrowed fro
 m the collection of Forrest L. Merrill including pieces by Glen Lukens\, L
 aura Andreson\, Beatrice Wood\, Marquerite Wildenhain\, Dr. Herbert Sander
 s\, Antonio Prieto and Bob Fritz.\nThe exhibition will include historical 
 background of ACGA and Frederick Carlton Ball who founded the association 
 in 1945. Ball (1911-1992) taught ceramics in numerous colleges and univers
 ities for more than 40 years and wrote a book called 'Decorating Pottery w
 ith Clay\, Slip and Glaze'.\nIt was at Mills College that Ball developed t
 he pottery studio and founded the San Francisco Potters’ Association (no
 w ACGA) around a group of artists\, including Jade Snow Wong and Ruby O’
 Bourke\, who worked with him in an adult program parallel to the regular c
 urriculum. \nFunctional works in clay and glass will be on sale in the com
 munity gallery. \nCarol Koffel will be raffling off eight of her spectacul
 ar tumblers at the opening reception on January 21\, held from 4 to 6 p.m.
 \nThe arts center in collaboration with the ACGA Artists will  be hosting
  docent tours of the exhibition\, demonstrations\, weekend workshops and a
 fterschool programs focused on the fine crafts of clay and glass. Check ou
