Its overall membership totals more than 200 young singers, ages 6 to 18, in seven levels of graded training and performing choirs. The members of the touring Northwest Boychoir are the most elite singers in the group. They range in age from 10 to 14 and are treble voices. These young singers perform regularly with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, on movie and video game soundtracks, in professional recording studios in the service of other recording artists, and as part of their own year-round schedule of concerts. This tour marks the Northwest Boychoir’s 21st national or international tour in 37 years. Prior tours have taken the choir to Great Britain, Eastern Europe, Washington, D.C., Australia, the West and East Coast of the United States, as well as Japan and Hawaii. “Our concert tours provide our singers with two weeks of non-stop performances,” Crnko said. “These are professional concerts in highly-regarded music venues in California. Each time we tour, our members become stronger musicians and more experienced performers.” The Northwest Boychoir is an essential part of the cultural fabric of the Puget Sound community. The Seattle Symphony leads a long list of professional arts groups that rely on the talents of the Boychoir. The Choir closed its 2010 season with a performance of A Festival of Lessons & Carols at Benaroya Hall, presented by the Seattle Symphony. The Northwest Boychoir has recently been seen on stage with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in performances of Orff’s Carmina burana and Gerard Schwarz’s The Human Spirit. The Choir was honored to perform and record the world premiere of VEDEM by American composer Lori Laitman with Music of Remembrance at Benaroya Hall. The Northwest Boychoir also recently released a recording of Americana music.
