WHAT: "The Mystery of Irma Vep"
By Charles Ludlam
It's a "dark and stormy night," when Lord Edgar Hillcrest (under the spell of his deceased first wife, Irma Vep) arrives at Mandacrest Estate with his new bride, Lady Enid in this hilarious, campy comedy satirizing everything from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rebecca” to “The Mummy's Curse.”
A definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas, Charles Ludlam's "The Mystery of Irma Vep" is a two-act, quick-change, cross-dressing marathon in which two actors play all the roles (including sympathetic werewolf, a vampire and an Egyptian princess) while making more than 30 costume changes. Featuring live musical underscoring and foley sound effects by Janis Wilson.
