Outer Voices and our Student Editorial Board have dedicated this podcast to Haiti. The recent earthquake there has been a reason for this small Caribbean nation to remain in the headlines, and to have rock concerts dedicated to "saving" it. But to begin to understand this country, we go to its margins, geographically and socially.
First we travel to the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic to unveil some of the sad truths of inequalities between neighbors. Next: Haiti is a country best known for its poverty as well as for voodoo - but what do we really understand about why Haiti struggles economically? And is voodoo really black magic sorcery? National Geographic Explorer Wade Davis explains. And finally, in our final touching story we meet a gay voodoo priest: he talks about his life and the empowerment that voodoo gives to him.
